Into the Quiet- Yoga & Herb Medicine
Place date & time – Beechwood Club, Beechwood Rd., Fishponds BS16 3TP; 17th November 2024; 1pm to 5pm
Price-£40/£30

This workshop connects us with the Autumn season through herbal action, yogic movement and the elements. Autumn is the air element, the shifting winds as the energies change; the drawing in, rooting down, the coming of the quiet time.
Come and join highly trained and experienced yoga teacher, Hannah Embleton-Smith, and Medical Herbalist, Helen White, for this deep dive into the quiet time.
In the herbal section of the afternoon, we will focus on fruits and roots, discussing both their nourishing and medicinal properties including how we might prepare and use them. We will have herbal tasters, a demonstration of how to make a nourishing and delicious autumn cordial and we will also make our own incense using autumn plants, which you can take away with you for use at home or maybe as a gift!
In the yoga session, we recognise the environment within the body with a yoga practice for all levels. In movement, we begin to explore harnessing the winds ("vayus" in Sanskrit) of the body, empowering us to come into relationship with the movement of our vital energy. We'll play with elemental mantra and balance steady and restorative asana to experience the vayus, before calming the winds and softening into the stillness of yoga nidra. A chance to restore deeply and go nourished into the dark evening.

Spring/Summer 2024

The date is set for the Summer Yoga & Herbs Session. hurray! Continuing our popular collaboration with Yoga and Herbs through the seasons, Hannah Embleton-Smith, a highly trained and wonderfully talented yoga teacher and myself would like to announce our Summer session,
Open to Summer, Yoga & Herb Medicine; Sunday, 21 st July from 1pm to 5pm at the Beechwood Club, Fishponds, BS16 3TP.
Price-£40/£30
These workshops blend the element and energy of the season with herbal action and yogic movement. The summer workshop will be celebrating the fire element in its many forms! Within the body it can be recognised as the vital force, that which activates and drives us; it is also the fire of the sun that gives energy to the earth. Fire can represent light, warmth, energy and transformation!.
In the yoga session, Hannah says, 'we will continue to bring environment into body with a yoga practice for all levels. In movement, we celebrate summer’s fire and capacity of transformation that opens us to new possibilities. We'll play with elemental mantra, asana and contemplative meditation, recognising our inner fire as an expression of will, power to transform, and shared vibrancy. To close, we will hold a safe fire ceremony to welcome in transformation'.
In the herbal section of the afternoon we will look at how the fire energy manifests in the summer plants and how we work with this energy for improved health and healing. We will take a deep dive into the uses, both medicinal and more esoteric, of a handful of these wonderful summer medicinal's. Through our musings, we will touch on an ancient and fundamental principal of herbal treatment; the idea of healing by opposite or similar action, termed, 'Cure by antipathy or sympathy', by Nicholas Culpeper.
There will be herbal tasters and cooling herbal beverages, we will utilise the potent benefits of these plants to demonstrate/make a dream pillow and smudge stick to take away and will see how to prepare a herbal first aid essential!

October and November
Dandelion and Burdock Making Session
Haven Community Garden, Wainbrook Drive, Clay Bottom, BS5 7EG, from 11am to 1pm, on 5th November. £6.50/£5
Come and join in, making, delicious and nourishing, real dandelion & burdock cordial and take a bottle home to enjoy at your leisure.
I will bring everything we will need apart from all the lovely fresh dandelion roots. This is the time to harvest those wonderful roots, (from pesticide free areas and away from popular 'dog spots') . Use a fork or spade to loosen around and then ease out the root. To wash, I usually leave them soaking for 5 or 10 minutes and then lightly scrub with a pan scrubber. This is a good opportunity to dig out any unwanted (hard to believe) dandelions; from the lawn, borders, allotment etc. About 100gms of root or more, would be ideal. If you are unsure regarding ID and would like to come along, I will bring some extras and I am sure we can harvest a few there and then!
If you are unsure of the location, please do get in touch.
